“Really it’s that simple,” Atlanta artist George F. Baker III says of his YOU SEE US mural. “Be with US on this and don’t let your current ignorance leave you on the wrong side of history.” The mural went up on or about June 23.
ARTIST: Baker (@gfb3 on Instagram), who moved to Atlanta from Detroit with his family in 2008. “Atlanta wasn’t where I was born,” he said in a November 2019 ArtsATL column. “But it’s been the city that’s shaped me.”
STYLE: Characters that are deceptively simple and may remind you of Saturday-morning cartoons. Other influences include Pokemon trading cards and Japanese anime. In 2019, he did public-art projects with Nike, Epitome and the NFL. His art can be seen throughout Atlanta, from the BeltLine to corporate offices.
LOCATION: YOU SEE US is in Summerhill, the neighborhood around Atlanta’s former Olympic stadium (and Turner Field) and surrounding streets.
QUOTE: “Much love to @summerhill_atl for giving me the space to illustrate this very truth.”
In times like these, when we are separated by necessity, ArtsATL is needed more than ever. Please consider a donation so we can continue to highlight Atlanta’s creative community.
