Music: Jimmy Herring, Corey Smith

Widespread Panic guitarist (and Atlanta-area resident) Jimmy Herring brings his new solo band, The 5 of 7, to Variety Playhouse on Wednesday, November 20. All five members of Herring’s band are alumni of bands led by the late Col. Bruce Hampton, most famously Herring in the Aquarium Rescue Unit.

Athens-area native Corey Smith, a former high-school teacher who used a distinctly DIY approach to launch his music career, has become one of America’s most successful indie artists. The singer/songwriter’s Friday-night show at City Winery is sold out, but the venue is compiling a waiting list for any tickets that might become available.
