Your Source For The Arts In Atlanta

ArtsATL has hired two veteran Atlanta arts journalists, Howard Pousner and Gillian Anne Renault, as senior editors.

Pousner will oversee ArtsATL’s theater coverage, in addition to film and TV. Renault will be in charge of art and design coverage, in addition to dance.

“I am thrilled to have Howard and Gillian join our editorial team,” ArtsATL executive editor Scott Freeman said. “They are both talented and highly-respected journalists who have been deeply involved in Atlanta’s arts community for many years. It’s a joy to be working with them.”

Renault has written about dance for ArtsATL since 2012. She also has covered dance and performance art for the Los Angeles Daily News, The Herald Examiner, California magazine, Ballet News and many other publications as well as radio stations KUSC, KPFK and KCRW, the Santa Monica-based NPR affiliate. She performed with the Chelmsford Ballet Company in England and taught dance in England, New York and Los Angeles. Her artwork has been exhibited at Georgia Tech Arts’ Richards Gallery, Mercer University and various faith communities.

“I have been writing, dancing and doing art for as long as I can remember,” Renault said. “Coming to ArtsATL, and covering Atlanta’s exciting, diverse artistic community is a dream come true. I am excited to be working with such a talented and dedicated group of professionals who love what they do.”

Pousner worked at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution for 35 years as a reporter and editor. He has also handled media relations and social media for the Breman Jewish Heritage Museum, Slotin Auction and Main Street Gallery. He is a board member of the Paradise Garden Foundation and curates its annual Finster Fest artist market.

“I have abiding respect for ArtsATL’s commitment to covering Atlanta’s arts scene, and I am excited to have the opportunity to contribute to this work and help move the site forward,” Pousner said. “It’s no secret that it is a challenging time in the communications business, and ArtsATL’s reporting and critical voice are so essential for the arts community and our readers. On a personal note, it’s wonderful to collaborate with smart journalist colleagues again, and to work closely with talented writers.”
