Art Beats Atlanta, a cooperative of of arts and culture organizations, has launched the website ArtBeatsATL.com, designed as a free online portal for those sheltering at home. The site, which went live today (May 20), features virtual events and digital content created by 50–plus co-op members. (ArtsATL is one of the project’s media sponsors.)
Art Beats Atlanta includes weekly virtual events, information and digital content for theater and spoken word, dance and movement, music, visual art, film and classes. The immediate intent is to provide a space for online arts programming during Covid-19. The long-term goal is to build Art Beats into a platform through which Atlanta’s arts organizations can promote their work through June 2021. It ultimately may become a permanent resource. Another goal is to inspire people to learn more about the arts community and how they can become more engaged.
“This idea is rooted in a couple of beliefs,” Synchronicity Theatre’s Rachel May said in a statement. “First, people need entertainment, amusement and engagement for their emotional well-being. Since this is our business, the arts community has the innate ability to serve this need.”
May, one of Art Beats Atlanta’s founders, also said having one place where people can find quality digital content while sheltering in place will hopefully keep them engaged in the arts and bring them back to the arts when restrictions are lifted.
As of today, members range from Actor’s Express and the Alliance Theatre to Arts at Emory, Atlanta Contemporary, Atlanta Young Singers, Core Dance, Hammonds House Museum, MOCA GA, True Colors Theatre Company, Museum of Design Atlanta, Out on Film, Theatre Buford, Voices of Note, Write Club Atlanta and many more. Membership is free.
In times like these, when we are separated by necessity, ArtsATL is needed more than ever. Please consider a donation so we can continue to highlight Atlanta’s creative community.
