Core Dance will continue its dance film exploration this week with enCore: Dance on Film, screening films from around the world on the windows of the Core Dance studios in Decatur Square. This year marks the 10-year anniversary of the program, and dance work from the UK, Iran, Greece, the United States and elsewhere will be featured this year. Free.

MUSIC

Kevn Kinney — frontman of that fixture of the Atlanta rock scene Drivin N Cryin — recently released his first solo album in over a decade. The album is titled Think About It, and Kinney describes it as “a very introspective and lonely record,” all about unplugging, stepping away from cellphone culture and just being alone with your thoughts. Kinney will serve up the bittersweet loneliness live at Eddie’s Attic this Tuesday. As a bonus, the album is out on vinyl, too. Tom Clark opens the show. Tickets: $20.

WeOnFyre Cypher Movement isn’t just event production. The Atlanta-based organization is dedicated to creating safe, family-friendly community events in cities around the world. Co-founders Anthony “Fyrefli” Gasaway Jr. and Joy “Kuma” Gasaway began the series to “provide artists, creatives, entrepreneurs, community supporters and advocates from all walks of life” a chance to mix and mingle in a decidedly safe yet energetic environment. This month’s event is on Sunday in Decatur Square. Free.

ART+DESIGN

Sam Middleton was a worldly artist in a way not afforded to many artists, much less to most African American artists of the 1960s. But Middleton took full advantage of his U.S. Merchant Marine status to see the world from Mexico to Sweden and beyond. The results of Middleton’s cosmopolitan outlook will be on view in Rhythm of Resilience at Hammonds House Museum, continuing through August 18. Entry $10; student and senior discounts available.

All in the Golden Afternoon is Spalding Nix Fine Art’s turn at showcasing the fantastical and hallucinogenic. One of the four artists in the group exhibition, Minsk-born painter Marina Dunbar, will speak on Instagram Live on Tuesday, July 2, covering her contribution to this theme. Dunbar’s abstract works are made by applying “pastel washes of color alongside the gritty textures of sand, while also cutting and re-assembling the canvas to build and rebuild each composition.” The result is shimmery, translucent canvases resplendent with the colors of spring. Free.

THEATER

The Horizon Theatre Company’s new season is already in gear, earlier than most. And it powers forward with Bekah Brunstetter’s The Game, opening this weekend through July 28. This play examines the glitchy marriage of Alyssa and Homer as an ultra-addictive video game wrecks the couple’s lives. Caroline Jane Davis directs, and Jennifer Alice Acker and Chris Hecke head up the cast in this uproarious comedy. Tickets: $35.

Making the trek from its typical Old Fourth Ward stomping grounds, Dad’s Garage will head out to Smyrna this Friday for a one-night-only comedy performance presented by the Smyrna Arts Council. The group will bring its act to the Smyrna Community Center, where they’ll be stirring up laughs for an 18+ crowd. ArtsATL has watched the group shine over the years, and now Smyrna audiences get a front-row view. As of press time, the Council was seeking volunteers to help with the show in exchange for a free ticket. Tickets: $30-$40.

FILM+TV

ASIFA-South is the Atlanta-based chapter of ASIFA International, the international animation network whose mission is to foster a united animation community locally and internationally. ASIFA-South’s free conference — ASIFAC Animation Festival and Conference: Animation Re:Launch will take place this Friday and Saturday at Kennesaw State University. Come for the usual workshops, panels and screenings but also exhibition booths, games and mixers. Expect to hear about hot-button topics such as AI and new technologies. Free with registration.
