Eddie Farr Lights up Woodruff Park with ART in the PARK’s ‘Radiant’

Woodruff Park in Downtown Atlanta will soon be lit up by sculptures inspired by the festive season. ART in the PARK is a year-long public art initiative that displays free interactive installations in Woodruff Park made by local and international artists. Radiant will be its December installation.

“ART in the PARK represents a commitment to bringing new and accessible art experiences to the public while celebrating Atlanta’s creative talent,” said Nancy Zintak, vice president of communication and engagement at Central Atlanta Progress in a press statement.

Radiant is made by Atlanta-based artist Eddie Farr, who works with physical and digital technology. According to the press release, it explores light, movement and seasonal inspiration, featuring conical sculptures resembling pine trees. The installation is a collaboration with Atlanta-based creative nonprofit Dashboard and is presented by the Atlanta Downtown Improvement District and Arts & Entertainment Atlanta. 

ART in the PARK’s past installations have included Taino Night Glow, a Caribbean-inspired mural celebrating indigenous culture, and Los Trompos, featuring colorful spinning tops. Each installation debuts with an opening celebration. According to the press release, Radiant’s celebration will feature a dance performance by choreographer Nadya Zeitlin, founder of Atlanta-based site-specific dance company Bautanzt Here, and live music by composer and multi-instrumentalist Dan Carey Bailey. Guests can also expect festive treats, including hot chocolate and doughnuts from Moni’s Donuts. 

“My goal with Radiant is to create a space where people can pause and reflect amidst the season’s bustle,” said Farr in a press statement. “The interplay of light, form and movement reflects the harmony and wonder we often find in nature and shared moments of connection. I hope this installation inspires visitors to engage with their surroundings in a thoughtful, meaningful way.” 

The opening event will take place Thursday, December 5.
