Your Source For The Arts In Atlanta

Bemoan yet another Monet exhibit? Drive ourselves crazy imagining all the other works in the Museum of Modern Art’s vast collection that could have come to Atlanta instead? We could, but what’s the use? Popular Monet helps pay the bills, and the Water Lilies are magnificent.(Reviewed in the AJC on June 5).
Remember, too, they were innovative when Monet made them, presaging Abstract Expressionism in their scale, all-over composition and dissolution of the subject into touch and color. And they affirm that great artists are great problem solvers. Rather than engage in a futile battle against aging, Monet found a new way forward, one that, in retrospect, was a logical culmination of his life interests. Like Rembrandt and Degas, among others, Monet made his final years into golden years. The High show opens June 6.
