Brandon Reeves

Dogwood Messer: In Intervals Between Reach and Grasp

Wolfgang Gallery presents a solo exhibition by Messer, who grew up in a Mississippi Gulf Coast community flooded by Hurricane Katrina. After Katrina, his family documented the damage with a disposable camera. His art practice began by drawing from those records — not to catalog damages but to form his own record of what potential might be salvaged from disaster. There’s an opening reception from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on March 6.

Juan Miguel Palacios: To Be Continued

Luca Fine Art presents a solo exhibition by Brooklyn-based Spanish artist Palacios. Moving between figuration and abstraction, his work explores identity, memory and the creative act. The show opens with a reception from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on March 7 and continues through April 4.

Art Beats + Lyrics

Celebrating more than 20 years on the road, this Atlanta-based traveling urban art and music exhibition supports visionary artists and musicians and blurs the line between artist and audience. It’s coming home to Atlanta this weekend with an event at Pullman Yards from 7 p.m. until midnight on March 7.

 Atlanta Science Festival

Yes, there’s science aplenty, with approximately 150 interactive and educational events, but this annual fest also explores the nexus of art and science. Find out what molecules sound like and experience new and innovative inventions at the Guthman Musical Instrument Competition. Theatre du Reve will stage Queen Bess, about Bessie Coleman, who earned her pilot’s license in the early 1900s by teaching herself French and traveling to France to study. The Festival gets underway with Celebrate STEAM at Georgia Tech from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on March 7. It all culminates in the Exploration Expo, a giant science bash in Piedmont Park from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on March 21.
