Your Source For The Arts In Atlanta

The Telluride Mountainfilm On Tour festival makes its fourth annual stop at the Plaza Atlanta Theatre Thursday, Friday and Saturday with a slate of movies that focus on celebrating nature, art and adventure.

The festival kicks off Thursday night with a screening of 50 Feet From Syria, a documentary about the experiences of Syrian-American surgeon Hisham Bismar as he volunteered at a Turkish refugee hospital on the Syrian border. The screening will be followed by a panel moderated by Atlanta playwright and actress Suehyla El-Attar that features filmmaker Skye Fitzgerald.

Festival organizers will also announce the inaugural winner of a scholarship for local, emerging filmmakers.

“The festival will continue to present the extreme adventure films our audiences love and expect, and we are including some of the cream of the Telluride Mountainfilm crop of films that are centered in social justice, human interest and conservation,” Jordan Naliwanjka, the director of the Atlanta festival.

On Friday, beginning at 10 a.m., the festival will screen nine films for kids from area schools. That evening, the festival will screen Ace and the Desert Dog, Life After Water, Edges, Throw and Clinica de Migrantes.

On Saturday evening, the slate of films include The Mysteries; Sandorkraut; Iceland, Proven Here; When We Were Knights; Mile 19; The Super Salmon and Angel Annihilates Alaska.
