Your Source For The Arts In Atlanta

The Atlanta Contemporary Art Center has disclosed the winner of its annual Nexus Award. Created last year to honor those who have made significant contributions to the local art community, the award this year goes to Louis Corrigan.

ACAC sought nominations from the public. After winnowing the candidates down to three, the executive committee of its board of directors voted, and the choice was unanimous.

This was no dark horse. Long a familiar face on local boards, at gallery openings and lectures, Corrigan (left) has gained prominence over the last couple of years for his philanthropic support at all levels of the community: individual artists, non-profit organizations and the arts press. (Disclosure: ArtsCriticATL received a $30,000 grant in 2010 from his foundation, Possible Futures.)

The Atlanta native has evinced a passionate interest in temporary public art, not only as aesthetic experience but as a form of civic engagement and community-building. For a deeper look at Corrigan’s interests and aspirations, see the recent interview published by our friends at Burnaway.

Congratulations, Louis. This is indeed your time.
