Arts Agenda: Dance – November/December 2024

Each week, ArtsATL delivers a critic’s short list of the shows, exhibitions, concerts and events we recommend for the coming weeks within one discipline in the kaleidoscope of Atlanta arts and culture. Every week, we’ll present a different art form.

Beacon Dance’s Saltarello Reimagined at The B Complex Gallery. Revisit a work that artistic director D. Patton White created in 1996. This version will include references to the work of artist Howard Finster. Free: reservations strongly encouraged.

November 1-3

Humblabad Four in Decatur. Four dance theater artists, including Nicholas Goodly of Fly on a Wall and performance artist Corian Ellisor, will present a new work outdoors in Decatur. Free.

November 2

SOMOS Dance Company and Los Niños Primero’s Día de Los Muertos at Elite Studios. It’s a bit of a mystery, but the combined companies will be presenting a program around the Day of the Dead, one afternoon only.

November 6

Core Dance’s Breath: in process streaming online. This virtual film event explores the breath of the Earth vs. the modern world. Free.

November 9

Bautanzt Here’s Avoiding Highways on the Beltline. Nadya Zeitlin and her company perform in parks and other outdoor venues. This week they are on the Atlanta Beltline. Free.

November 13

Young People’s Concert: Full Radius Dance at Spivey Hall. This company of disabled and non-disabled dancers educates as it entertains. Tickets: $5.

November 14

Properties of Being at Kennesaw State University Dance Theater. KSU’s dance faculty created new works for their students that will be performed in Marietta in a new program. Tickets: $15-$20.

November 16

Omelika Kuumba’s Soaring High at ArtsXchange. African rhythm meets Atlanta vibe in this gathering of dancers, drummers and musicians. Tickets: $65 plus fees.

December 5-8

Georgia Ballet’s The Nutcracker at the Jennie T. Anderson Theatre. It’s that time of year again, and the classic Tchaikovsky ballet has emerged. First up is Georgia Ballet’s rendition in Marietta. Tickets: $39-$59.

December 7-26

Atlanta Ballet’s The Nutcracker at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre. A high-tech take on a holiday favorite. Tickets: $31-$161.
