ABOUT JASMINE BURKE
Jasmine Burke discovered her calling early as a member of Marietta High School’s renowned Upstage Risk Drama Club, where she immersed herself in rigorous musical theater training. She seamlessly blended that discipline into her pageant performances while breaking into film as a background actor launching her professional career before graduation.
Awarded a full scholarship to Kennesaw State University, Jasmine made a bold and unconventional decision to leave college and travel the country auditioning for MTV’s hit talent competition Making the Band (Season 3). Her determination earned her a coveted finalist position and multiple recording contract offers. Ultimately, Jasmine turned them down to return to her first love; acting.
Starting from the ground up, she performed in local theater and made her film debut in the no-budget indie 16 Hours. Her persistence soon caught the attention of Tyler Perry Studios, leading to her television debut on Meet the Browns. Inspired by Tyler Perry’s self-made success, Jasmine expanded her creative vision writing, executive producing, directing, and starring in the short comedy Lucky Lotto, which earned her an Achievement in Directing award at the Women in Film & Television International Film Festival.
With Tyler Perry as her first true introduction to Hollywood, Jasmine’s career trajectory became sharply defined. She incorporated Jasmine Burke Productions, Inc., building an impressive body of work as both an actress and filmmaker. Her acting credits include Mississippi Damned (Netflix), The Secret Life of Bees (Fox Searchlight), Let It Shine (Disney), Ride Along (Universal), The Vampire Diaries (CW), Big Momma’s House: Like Father, Like Son (New Regency), Drumline: A New Beat (VH1), Love Is ___ (OWN), and Star (Fox), among many others.
Jasmine’s impact has been recognized industry-wide. She was honored as one of the 2015 Georgia Entertainment Gala’s “People to Watch in the Georgia Entertainment Industry”, alongside former Tyler Perry Studios President Ozzie Areu, named Rolling Out Magazine’s 2016 Top Women in Atlanta, and featured in People Magazine. Her evolution into leading lady roles resonated powerfully with audiences in the #1-rated series Saints & Sinners (Bounce), as well as feature films Angrily Ever After (BET) and Christmas Holidate (ALLBLK).
Committed to shattering stereotypes and amplifying culturally liberating narratives, Jasmine has starred in, written, and directed Oscar-shortlisted and network-acquired projects including Shamed (ALLBLK), Rumors Salon (Impact Network), and Let Us Make Eve (ALLBLK), further cementing her reputation as a dynamic and fearless storyteller.
Currently, Jasmine captivates daytime television audiences with her heartfelt portrayal of June, a homeless woman fighting to reclaim her life, on CBS’s historic #1-rated soap opera Beyond the Gates. Extending her impact beyond the screen, she serves her community through the Jasmine Burke Foundation, providing mental health resources—work that earned her an honorary doctorate in Humanitarianism.
As she celebrates the 20th anniversary of her professional career, Jasmine comes full circle reuniting with Tyler Perry in the hit Netflix series Beauty in Black, where audiences will meet her bold new character, Gina.
Whether in front of the camera, behind it, or in service to the community, Dr. Jasmine Burke continues to lead with purpose, passion, and love.
