Psalms for Black Girls
September 19, 2024 - January 18, 2025

The Department of Arts & Culture presents, “Psalms for Black Girls,” a solo exhibition featuring the works of contemporary artist Shanequa Gay. This series of large-scale murals featuring photographs on tapestries of African American girls playing with monotone flags examines race, class, age, and vulnerability – and how it uniquely ties to rights, visibility, and policy in this country. Gay is interested in the ways that young African American girls participate, engage, and experiment with citizenship while also navigating a series of closures and exclusions to access their birthright in this nation.
Artist Talk – Saturday, October 19, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
