Decatur Lunar New Year Festival

The Decatur Lunar New Year Festival is Atlanta’s first Pan-Asian celebration, featuring the diverse customs of several different Asian countries, including Vietnam, South Korea, China, Japan, and the Philippines. We are in our 4th year and in a convenient location – Ebster Recreation Center Courtyard in downtown Decatur. Lunar New Year is about spending time with loved ones and engaging in traditions that bring good luck and health. Founded by Asian American families who have made their home in the City of Decatur, it is a chance to honor our diverse heritage and cultures and to celebrate the New Year with the greater Atlanta community. We also hope to promote inclusivity and education in a safe environment. 2025 rings in the Year of the Snake. In Asian cultures, the snake is a symbol of wisdom, mystery, and charm. We are holding an illustration contest for all our young Decatur artists, and the winner will have their art featured at the festival.

There will be craft booths where kids of all ages can indulge their creativity, and cultural tables will showcase the auspicious customs of different Asian countries. A variety of food vendors – including Leftie Lee’s, Rebel Teahouse, and Adobo ATL – will offer tasty treats, many of which are considered good luck for the New Year. The marketplace will feature Asian American creators such as Tiffblot and Sad Frog Studios, and up-and-coming artist Andrew Blooms returns to design our official snake, which will be featured in our limited edition merch. Asian American authors Angela Pham Krans and Shelly Anand will read from their latest children’s picture books. GA Tech’s Filipino Student Association will perform traditional and modern Tinikling dances and hold a dance workshop afterwards. The highlight of the festival will be the lion dance, brought to you by Sang Anh Đường dance troupe at 3:00pm.

All proceeds will benefit Asian American Voices for Education, an Atlanta-based non-profit which advocates for the teaching of comprehensive US history including AAPI history. ! Tickets are available through the Decatur Lunar New Year website as well as information about sponsorships.
