Artist Talk and Showcase, Terri Dilling

“Thresholds,” a two person show by Terri Dilling and Ali O’Leary, opens Friday, October 27th in the Watson Gallery at the Distillery of Modern Art. Both artists create mixed media works that explore ideas about shifting perspectives and crossing thresholds, from internal to external, from micro to macro, and from digital to material world. Each artist deals with these concepts in their own way, yet there are connections that can be made. The artists will be present several times during the exhibit, where you can also enjoy a craft cocktail from the distillery.

Terri Dilling is inspired by the beauty and complexity of the natural world, and her work makes reference to the landscape around her, as well as an emotional landscape within. For her, “Thresholds” is about the blurred boundaries between inner and outer realms. Her abstract paintings express a mood or feeling that resonates from within, conveying both movement and balance. Dilling is also showing cyanotypes, which involves using a light sensitive solution that gets exposed in the sun to turn blue. Sun and water are part of the process, making a direct connection to nature. Dilling received a BA from Indiana University and a BFA from Georgia State University, and is in art collections around the world.
