GHOSTED: A mostly True Story of Love, Loss, Shame and Redemption.
GHOSTED, had its World Premiere at United Solo in April 2024. The United Solo Festival in New York City, (https://unitedsolo.org/), the biggest solo festival in the world, brings together some of the most talented solo performers from around the world. Ghosted was also at the Philadelphia Fringe Festival in September 2024
“With every wish, there comes a curse,” Bruce Springsteen. GHOSTED, written and performed by solo actor, Celeste Walker (www.celestewalker.com) is about her reconciliation with past ghosts, reclaiming an authentic self, and finding empowerment through resiliency. Walker meets her soul mate while working in The Americus Hotel in Allentown, PA. The relationship ends tragically and abruptly, and, with the help of a few ghosts, Celeste is able to recover from loss and shame to create a fulfilling third act. 1 actor, 8 characters tell the story, 38 years in the making
GHOSTED is based on Walker’s memoir and developed as part of her ongoing partnership with her director and developer, Jessica Lynn Johnson, founder and master teacher at Soaring Solo Studios (https://www.soaringsolostudios.com/bio/).
Original music for the production was composed by Dan Shore, an American composer and playwright from Allentown, Pennsylvania, whose works include The Beautiful Bridegroom, An Embarrassing Position, Travel, Works of Mercy, and Lady Orchid. https://www.danshoremusic.com/
The ALLENTOWN CONNECTION: GHOSTED takes place at The Americus Hotel in Allentown, PA, and GHOSTED was performed at The Civic Theatre’s, Theatre514, 527 N 19th Street, Allentown, before moving to the Binge Fringe Festival at the Santa Monica Playhouse and The Dickens Theatre in Ocean View DE. (A hip injury sidelined Ms. Walker and her show at the Harrisburg Fringe had to be cancelled in 2025.) GHOSTED was performed at the Pittsburgh Fringe Festival in March 2026.
The first draft of GHOSTED was presented in an online reading as part of Soaring Solo’s Revealed reading series in August 2023. Amy Veltman, Solo Artist: “I love how this is a story that, in some ways is universal, but the specificity that you bring to it and the genuine emotion in your delivery makes it feel so fresh and urgent.” Melissa Davey, Documentary Filmmaker: “It is a moving story that so many women will relate to. Story can change the world.”
Review from the New York Premiere:
I loved this play and what a gorgeous performance by this warm, wise, sexy woman. Engaging everyone, connecting, mesmerizing and holding the audience in the palm of her hand while she unwound this sad and funny, tragic and inspiring tale. I really hope you get the chance to see Celeste Walker’s “Ghosted.” By Samantha Simmonds-Ronceros -[NoHo Arts District, CA] – A NoHo Arts theatre review
Review from the Allentown, Civic Theatre Production:
Her show is a tour de force as she brings many facets of her gem of a life to bear for scrutiny by the viewer. The result is a polished stone of a story representing low points, struggle, acceptance, accomplishment and acclaim. Walker’s performance is in turns hard-bitten, gritty, angry, sometimes profane. Review from the Pittsburgh Fringe Festival Production:
Ghosted doesn’t tell a new or original story (just ask millions of women who’ve been loved and then lost, a tale as old as time), but a sincere one. This production is an example of how important the personal events of our private lives, while not particularly shiny or spectacular, can resonate through a lifetime and are worthy of time, care, and in some cases, a stage. With all the persistent self help gurus, inspirational Instagram posts about reclaiming one’s life and self worth, it’s easy to become callous with overexposure. But every story about a woman finding her value and peace after a lifetime of feeling disposable and heartbroken is worth celebrating, and I was glad to be a witness to Walker’s victory.
