SUMMARY:Boz Scaggs - Rhythm Review 2025
DESCRIPTION:Boz Scaggs is an American singer\, songwriter\, and guitarist. An early bandmate of Steve Miller in The Ardells and the Steve Miller Band\, he began his solo career in 1969\, though he lacked a major hit until his 1976 album Silk Degrees peaked at Number 2 on the Billboard 200\, and produced the hit singles “Lido Shuffle” and “Lowdown”. Scaggs produced two more platinum-certified albums in Down Two Then Left and Middle Man\, the latter of which produced two Top-40 singles “Breakdown Dead Ahead” and “Jojo”. After a hiatus for most of the 1980s\, he returned to recording and touring in 1988\, joining The New York Rock and Soul Revue and opening the nightclub Slim’s\, a popular San Francisco music venue until it closed in 2020. He has continued to record and tour throughout the 1990s\, 2000s\, and 2010s\, with his most recent album being 2018’s Out of the Blues. \nScaggs is credited for helping the formation of Toto. For his 1976 album\, Silk Degrees\, he hand picked musicians after taking suggestions from several people. These musicians were David Paich\, David Hungate\, and Jeff Porcaro. The three were already friends and had frequently performed together on other albums\, such as Steely Dan’s Pretzel Logic. By going on tour with Scaggs\, it solidified the prospect of starting a band. Columbia picked up on this talent by offering the new group a contract “without audition”. Steve Porcaro described this as “a record deal thrown in our laps”. Paich stated “I’m not sure if Toto would have happened as soon\, or quite the same way\, without Silk Degrees”. Their friendship has continued throughout the decades shown by the varying collaborations and concerts performed together. Paich teamed up once more for Scaggs’ 2001 album\, Dig\, where he contributed to 6 out of the 11 songs.

Little Feat used a combination of elite musicianship and brilliant\, idiosyncratic songwriting to create a repertoire that transcends all boundaries. California rock\, funk\, folk\, jazz\, country and rockabilly mixed with New Orleans swamp boogie led to a powerful sound that has kept the audience dancing for decades. Their groove–in songs like “Dixie Chicken\,” “Spanish Moon\,” “Fat Man in the Bathtub\,” and “Feats Don’t Fail Me Now”–was so infectious it allowed them to endure and press on even when losing their founder\, Lowell George\, and founding drummer\, Richie Hayward. DESCRIPTION:Ben Folds is widely regarded as one of the major music influencers of our generation. \nThe Emmy-nominated singer-songwriter-composer has created an enormous body of genre-bending music that includes pop albums with Ben Folds Five\, multiple solo albums\, and numerous collaborative records. \nHis latest pop solo album What Matters Most was released in 2023 to rave reviews and sold-out performances. He recently released his first Christmas album Sleigher in time for the 2024 holiday season\, and recently record a LIVE album with the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center in DC slated for release in 2025. \nHe currently tours as a pop artist\, while also performing with some of the world’s greatest symphony orchestras and serving in his 8th year as the first ever Artistic Advisor to the NSO. In his role as Artistic Advisor\, Folds curates an ongoing concert series called “Declassified: Ben Folds Presents\,” which pairs contemporary artists from all genres of music with the NSO. A New York Times Best Selling author and former podcast host\, Ben is also working on new compositions for film\, tv and theatre. He also frequently guest stars in films and TV. \nIn 2022\, Ben launched a music education charitable initiative in his native state of North Carolina entitled “Keys For Kids\,” which provides funds and keyboards to existing nonprofits that offer free or affordable piano lessons to school-age children from economically-disadvantaged households. And he continually advocates for improving public policies for the arts and arts education on the national level as a member of Americans For The Arts and the Arts Action Fund.
