SUMMARY:Poetic Licence – A Staged Reading
DESCRIPTION:April 13\, 2026 at 7:30 PM\, Dutch playwright Frank Siera is bringing a staged reading of Poetic Licence to 7 Stages’ Mainstage. \nThis (probably) true story of British playwright Joe Orton and his partner Ken\, who–in what might have been a psychotic episode–killed both Joe and himself; a play about playwrights and actors\, about the difference between theatre and reality\, about the difference between normalcy and dangerous absurdity\, about homosexuality when it was considered both a crime and a mental illness\, about what should or should not be normal\, and the thin line between fiction and reality. \nThis staged reading includes a preshow introduction by playwright Frank Siera and 7 Stages Artistic Director Heidi S Howard\, as well as a post-show Art of Activism dialogue centered on the boundaries of normalcy\, questions of sanity and what is actually criminal behavior. \nContent warning – descriptions of sexual violence and self harm.

SUMMARY:Becoming a Man in 127 Easy Steps - Film Screening
DESCRIPTION:Part comedy special\, part oral history\, and part love letter to becoming your true self\, Becoming a Man in 127 EASY Steps chronicles two decades of Emmy-nominated creator/performer Scott Turner Schofield’s life as an out transgender man. With a knowing nod to the often-overlooked comedy of transitioning\, the film reflects on the many layers of becoming oneself\, exploring nuanced truths and breaking important new ground in trans representation. \nTwice censored (so far) and arriving amid a cultural and legislative reckoning\, the film resists simplification in what it explores\, how it tells the story\, and the form it takes. Instead\, Schofield brings vulnerability\, wit\, and presence to the details of his own life\, connecting the personal to the universal and reminding audiences of all we share. \nFunny\, profound\, and fiercely honest\, Becoming a Man in 127 EASY Steps celebrates complexity and invites viewers to consider\, more deeply and compassionately\, what becoming—and being—a man can mean.

SUMMARY:A BODY IN THE O
DESCRIPTION:March 14 and 15\, 2026 at 7 Stages\, climb along with performer Tim Miller inside the giant “O” of the Hollywood sign – or as Shakespeare conjured it “the wooden O” of all theatre and performance–where we try to take on the big themes of our time. Miller performs a new work created from his newest book of performances and stories A BODY IN THE O. \nJumping off from a day in 1984 when Miller scrambled up inside of the O of the Hollywood sign and imagined the performance space tree house of his dreams (PS NY and Highways Performance Space)\, A BODY IN THE O journeys through the hoops of the Department of Homeland Security\, a queer boy’s truthtelling\, and finally a wedding day in NYC in 2013 as Miller imagines the full possibility of performance that changes the world inside these wooden Os!

SUMMARY:F.PUNK JUNKIES
DESCRIPTION:F.PUNK JUNKIES is a Woman-centered\, Black and Brown Ensemble-driven dance theatre piece written and directed by Teo Castellanos. This work brings the company’s “AfroRican Punk” aesthetic to their storytelling\, and digs deeply into our collective ancestral roots. \nSix deities gather to share tales woven with energetic punk music and expressive movement: Stories of a guitar player at a crossroad\, a greedy deceiver\, a theatrical baseball ritual\, a secret society of beautiful femmes\, an encounter on a plastic beach\, a prison break\, and reunification in the mosh pit. They are adapted from Orisha Mythology and Caribbean folktales with modern flair.

SUMMARY:KAIROS Dance Theater's husk/vessel
DESCRIPTION:KAIROS Dance Theater’s husk/vessel\, a collaboration with legendary choreographer Paula Josa-Jones\, is a powerful dance-theater work that explores the body as both a vessel of memory and a husk shaped by time\, resilience\, and loss. The piece was created entirely during the COVID-19 pandemic. Through raw physicality\, haunting imagery\, and dynamic choreography\, the piece navigates the tension between strength and fragility\, presence and impermanence. A meditation on transformation\, husk/vessel invites audiences into a visceral\, immersive experience where movement becomes both an act of survival and surrender.

SUMMARY:LUV presented by Ovations Theater
DESCRIPTION:“LUV” by Murray Schisgal is a riotous comedy that follows the misadventures of Harry and Milt\, two old friends whose lives take unexpected turns when they reunite on a New York City bridge. As they grapple with failed relationships\, absurd schemes\, and existential crises\, their antics spiral hilariously out of control. With witty dialogue\, absurd situations\, and a touch of heart\, “LUV” is a delightful romp that explores the absurdity of modern life and the enduring bonds of friendship.

SUMMARY:Elements of Euclid at the Atlanta Fringe Festival
DESCRIPTION:Reimagine Geometry in Little Five Points\nFall in love with Little Five Points all over again. “The Elements of Euclid\,” debuting at the 2024 Atlanta Fringe Festival\, mixes art\, romance\, and the timeless principles of geometry. \nWhere Math Meets Mayhem\n“The Elements of Euclid” takes the books of Euclid’s mathematical masterpiece and transforms them into a narrative unfolding along his line. Follow the intertwined lives of three Little Five Points locals – a photographer\, a writer\, and a musician – as they navigate the complexities of romance and artistic expression. With Euclid Avenue as their backdrop and the Elements as their guide\, the three explore the parallels of creative expression\, the perpendicularities of artistic and romantic rivalries\, and the angles at which lives meet. \nA Little Five Points Love Story\nAn ode to the eclectic spirit of Little Five Points\, each character embodies the neighborhood’s unique blend of artistry and individuality. The photographer’s lens\, the writer’s words\, and the musician’s rhythms. Their love triangle unfolds against the backdrop of iconic Euclid Ave. landmarks\, from The Variety Playhouse to Elmyr to The Euclid Ave. Yacht Club. It’s a celebration of Little Five Points\, a fresh take on a classic text\, and an exploration of the Bohemian spirit. \nWritten by Brian Bannon\nDirected by J.L. Reed\nFeaturing Abagail Dawkins\, Roberto Méndez\, and Lance Avery Brown.\nPerformances on the 7 Stages Mainstage Thursday June 6th at 10 p.m. Saturday June 8th at 2:30 and 8:30 p.m. and Sunday June 9th at 4 p.m.

SUMMARY:True North
DESCRIPTION:This scientific theatrical experience asks audiences to consider the things around them that they can’t see\, like electromagnetic energy and the way we interact with it\, in addition to the ways it may affect our morals\, navigation\, and communication. This play in three parts uses center staging to immerse the audience in a multifaceted performance with monologues\, science experiments\, projections\, and interaction. Characterizations of The Noosphere (played by Dorothy Bell-Polk with live music\, vocalization and movement) and Magnetic North (via projection merged with live science demos) join relatable everyday Joe (Markell Williams)–whose whole world is turned upside down when he takes part in a study about the human ability to detect Magnetic North and the effects it has on our decisions–and Anne (Priscilla Umphrey)\, an Indigenous scientist who draws parallels between ancient wisdom and new evidence.

SUMMARY:Beverly Austin's "The Wishing Place"
DESCRIPTION:The Essential Theatre Festival continues with the World Premiere of The Wishing Place\, written by Beverly Austin and directed by Ellen McQueen\, on August 18 at 8pm in the 7Stages Black Box Theatre.\n\nAustin’s first play was produced in London in 1974\, and she has had more than three dozen plays produced or presented since then. A native Atlantan for generations back\, for this play Austin draws deeply from memories of visiting her father’s family in Byron\, Georgia when she was growing up.\n\nThe Wishing Place is a poetic drama about two families in 1960s rural Georgia\, one black and one white\, trying to find their path and keep their dreams alive. Audiences only have 8 chances to see this poetic story unfold in its world premiere.

SUMMARY:Matthew Hoffman's "The Manuscript"
DESCRIPTION:2023 Essential Playwriting Award Winner The Manuscript by Matthew Hoffman kicks off the Festival on August 11. A compelling psychological drama about what we owe to those we’ve lost\, this is the playwright’s first full-length play and first full production. It is a family drama that borrows genre elements from psychological thrillers and crime procedurals: after an up-and-coming writer dies suddenly\, her wife and mother engage in an escalating power struggle over her artistic legacy\, her identity\, and the truth of what “really” happened.

SUMMARY:7 Stages presents "In The Beginning" solo show
DESCRIPTION:In this garden\, we’re starting over. Inflatable friends. Ballet. Apocalyptic disco. In The Beginning is a wonderfully weird and wildly ridiculous one-woman comedy that reimagines “Genesis” from a whole new perspective\, one free from shame\, rejection\, and labels. In The Beginning is the winner of “Best Clown” at Frigid New York Fringe 2023 and is coming off extremely successful runs in Austin and New York. Using satire\, absurd storytelling\, puppets\, and dance\, this intelligent and outrageous show surprises and delights as Adam floats by; the fruit isn’t what you think’ and a sheep proves that if you can dream it\, you can be it. Shows take place Thursday\, June 8\, at 8 p.m. and Saturday\, June 10\, at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. at 7 Stages Backstage (1105 Euclid Ave NE). 17 and up. Run time is 60 minutes.
