Out Front Theatre Company will celebrate the five-year anniversary of the Supreme Court ruling on gay marriage with Standing on Ceremony: The Gay Marriage Plays. The livestreamed event begins at 8 p.m. Friday (June 26) and features nine short works by playwrights Mo Gaffney, Jordan Harrison, Moisés Kaufman, Neil LaBute, Wendy MacLeod, José Rivera, Paul Rudnick and Doug Wright. The acting company includes Robert Lee Hindsman, Abby Holland, Keena Hunt, Danny Marin, Wendy Melkonian, Sofia Palmero, J.L. Reed, Charles Thomas, Ben Thorpe and Robert Wayne. Standing on Ceremony will Zoom for free on Out Front’s Facebook page.
A free virtual reading of the Donja R. Love play One in Two, described as a “funny and poignant exploration of making one’s way through the world as a black queer man living with HIV,” will livestream at 8 p.m. Saturday (June 17). It focuses on three young men, one of whom will be chosen. The actors will tell “his” story, a story they’re forced to tell over and over again about his new reality and how he lives with it — until he can’t. Register HERE to receive a Zoom link. The event is a collaboration by Out of Hand Theater, Out Front Theater, True Colors Theatre Company, the Counter Narrative Project and Positive Impact Health Centers.
The Fox Theatre is opening its doors virtually to offer its Behind the Scenes series, biweekly Friday tours that take visitors to often-unseen areas of the 90-year-old Atlanta landmark. Expect sneak peeks of the archives, backstage, dressing rooms, the hospital room, projector room and more. Regular in-person tours of the Fox have been suspended during the Covid-19 pandemic.
In times like these when we are separated by necessity, ArtsATL is needed more than ever. Please consider a donation so we can continue to highlight Atlanta’s creative community in this unprecedented time.
