Actor’s Express begins its 2020 Threshold New Play Festival at 7 p.m. Sunday with the thriller Borderstone by Natasha Patel. The festival of new-play readings (yes, readings) focuses on Atlanta and Georgia-based writers. Patel’s script takes place in the not-so-distant future where Border Motel employees dream of escape because a re-sanitation effort is slowly turning them white. The Asian American-themed Man From the East by actor/playwright Skye Passmore will be read at 7 p.m. January 26. Both are free, but smart people will reserve their spots.
The Atlanta Children’s Memorial Portraits exhibition, memorializing victims of the Atlanta Child Murders (1979–81) opens tonight (January 16) at the Mayor’s Gallery at City Hall downtown. All the work is by Atlanta artists. It will be on view through February 6. Dwayne Mitchell, the winning portrait artist, will have an exhibit of his work at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in May, June and July.
