The Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia (MOCA GA)

The Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia is expanding its Education/Resource Center. It has leased a 7,000-square-foot space adjacent to the current center, which is on the lower floor. Mack Scogin Merrill Elam Architects will design and renovate it, pro bono. (Merrill Elam is a museum board member.) The project is scheduled to be completed in April 2014.

The expanded space will allow increased public access to MOCA GA’s archive of some 150,000 historical documents, including journals, reviews, catalogs, works on paper and photographs. The archive contains records of such groups as the Vigilante Girls and the TABOO Curatorial Collective and a collection of art books from the estate of Genevieve Arnold.

The museum also intends to mount exhibitions from the collection and plans to use the space for meetings, tours, community gatherings, workshops and classes.
