“Moving Through the Pandemic” is the topic of a virtual panel discussion at 6 tonight (January 21) featuring local dance artists and retired Alvin Ailey company dancer Hope Boykin. It’s hosted by Atlanta Contemporary, and the panel includes Angela Harris, executive artistic director of Dance Canvas; T. Lang, choreographer and associate professor at Spelman College; Iquail Shaheed, executive artistic director of Philadelphia’s Dance Iquail!; and Boykin, a dancer and choreographer who recently retired from the Ailey company after 20 seasons. Their talk will focus on the challenges of creating dance during a pandemic, and how they’ve innovated and channeled inspiration from the events around them. Free, but registration is required.


The Emory Chamber Music Society of Atlanta begins its new season with two virtual concerts. At noon Friday (January 22), the Bach’s Lunch Series will feature the Vega String Quartet with guest violinist David Coucheron. They’ll perform Haydn’s “Emperor” and Borodin’s Quartet No. 2 in D Major from the virtual stage of the First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta. At 8 p.m. Saturday (January 23), violinist Chee-Yun, cellist Zuill Bailey and pianist Natasha Paremski will perform Brahms, Franck and Piazzolla from the Schwartz Center Virtual Stage.
