The ELEVATE Arts Festival, which begins this weekend, will offer the Atlanta Jazz Sessions all day Tuesday (October 6). ELEVATE reprises the performances that were filmed as a virtual version of the Atlanta Jazz Festival, canceled by Covid-19. Performers include the Mose Davis Trio, Tyrone Jackson and Friends, Brenda Nicole Moorer, Joe Gransden and Kenny Banks Sr., and Kathleen Bertrand. The headliner is Russell Gunn and the Royal Krunk Jazz Orkestra featuring Dionne Farris in a performance filmed at Atlanta’s Rialto Center for the Arts for the Blue Note Club in New York City.
Author and New York Times staff writer Sarah Maslin Nir will appear Monday (October 5) as part of the Atlanta History Center’s Virtual Talk series to discuss her new book, Horse Crazy: The Story of a Woman and a World in Love With an Animal. Nir’s book delves into America’s love affair with horses, and her own story of how a childhood bond with horses helped her heal from trauma. Nir is a Pulitzer Prize finalist and will be in conversation with GPB’s Virginia Prescott. The event is free, but registration is required for Zoom access.
In times like these, when we are separated by necessity, ArtsATL is needed more than ever. Please consider a donation so we can continue to highlight Atlanta’s creative community.
