And the third biennial Hudgens Prize goes to Bethany Collins.
Funded by an anonymous donor, The Hudgens Prize is intended to elevate the importance of the arts in Georgia and offer a transformational opportunity for one Georgia artist. Bethany Collins will receive $50,000 and a solo show at Hudgens Center for the Arts.
The selection was made by a jury composed of Shannon Fitzgerald, Executive Director, Rochester Art Center, Rochester, Minnesota; Buzz Spector, Professor of Art, Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts, Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri; and Hamza Walker, Associate Curator, The Renaissance Society at The University of Chicago.
The jury first winnowed the entries to the four finalists, Collins, Scott Ingram, Orion Wertz and Rylan Steele. The members made their final decision based on the exhibitions of their work, on display at Hudgens through June 27, and studio visits.
