Praying for a Brick, Praying for Financial Stability, Praying for Diamonds, but I’ll Take the Rain – Caleb Jamel Brown Solo Exhibition
November 22 @ 11:00 am - 5:00 pm
An event every week that begins at 11:00 am on Sunday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, repeating until November 28, 2020
Caleb Jamel Brown (b.1993) is an Atlanta-based artist, working primarily in collage, photography, painting, and installation. Brown’s work, intentionally vast in subject; challenges the stigmas of mental health in black communities, the perceived notions of labor & leisure and his ancestral history. His work investigates the use of language as the foundation for larger cultural narratives. In his practice, Brown uses up-cycled fabrics and paper, layered with photographs, paint, thread, clothes pens, and various other materials to reject the idea of the “American Dream.” Through doing away with outdated ideas of focus, Brown shamelessly allows conversation about work, politics, personal life and fantasy to go on simultaneously. Opening is 11am-10pm Saturday, Oct 17. Show runs through November 28.
