Dana Haugaard: That breeze just keeps blowing over me – 2021 Edge Award Exhibition
May 6 @ 11:00 am - 3:00 pm
An event every week that begins at 11:00 am on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, repeating until May 20, 2021
That breeze just keeps blowing over me is an exhibition of portraits of people and their “sense memories.” Dana Haugaard creates these portraits through the use of color, line, shape and a drawing machine that he built — an Audiograph — that translates sound into marks on a surface. The sound transcribed by the Audiograph was sourced from recordings of people recalling stories that were formative to their sense of self, as well as the sensations that accompany these stories. The resulting portraits are abstract and ambiguous markers that a person was present and a memory was shared. In addition to the portraits on display, the exhibit includes a speaker playing recorded audio and a vibrating bench. These serve as physical proxies for those sharing their sense memories. Haugaard makes memory, an inherently ephemeral and slippery concept, physical in this body of work. Opening Reception 3-7 p.m. Saturday, April 10. Show runs through May 20. Gallery open by appointment 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesday-Friday. Walk-ins welcome Saturday 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
