The street festival ELEVATE will bring more than 100 artists to Atlanta’s downtown between October 17 and 23. Expect dance, sculptures, installations, projections, mobile art galleries, spoken word, music and aerial performance. Many are interactive experiences. (Hint: bring your dancing shoes.)
Mounted by the Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs, the fest has many collaborators, among them the French Consulate, Eyedrum, the Goat Farm, Mammal Gallery, the Rialto and Ford Motor Company.
ELEVATE’s showcases of local talent is spiced with an international flavor. Point of View on the Corner: The American Corner is a dance performance created and performed by French group Association Manifeste and Atlanta’s CORE Performance Company. Atlanta artist Onur Topal Sumer’s multimedia project Live From Istanbul will feature performances by dancers in Turkey and will be streamed in projections on buildings. French artist Joanie Lemercier presents Tesselated Atlanta, a sculptural light performance.
New this year, ELEVATE will offer the Ford Art Tour, a drive-by of exhibits accompanied by commentary on Saturday afternoon. Reservations required.
And don’t forget the Fringe Festival.
