SUMMARY:Isamu Noguchi: “I am not a designer”
DESCRIPTION:Although Isamu Noguchi declared in 1949\, “I am not a designer\,” the internationally acclaimed artist regularly engaged with the space-shaping possibilities of design\, imagining and producing work in architecture\, industrial design\, ceramics\, furniture\, lighting\, stage sets\, and landscape design. In spring 2026\, the High will debut the artist’s first design retrospective in nearly twenty-five years\, featuring nearly two hundred objects\, many never or rarely exhibited\, spanning all facets of his creative output. \nIsamu Noguchi: “I am not a designer” coincides with the fiftieth anniversary of Playscapes\, a bicentennial gift for the city of Atlanta commissioned by the High in collaboration with the City of Atlanta Parks Department and the only one of Noguchi’s playgrounds built in the United States during his lifetime. \nHighlights of the exhibition will include sculptural models of potential and unrealized projects\, such as the recently rediscovered plaster for Play Mountain (1933); tables and stools designed for manufacturers like Herman Miller and Knoll; and a house model Noguchi designed in collaboration with architect Kazumi Adachi. The exhibition will also feature several large-scale installations\, notably the stage set for choreographer Martha Graham’s Seraphic Dialogue (1955)\, one of Noguchi’s innovative pieces of play equipment\, and a commissioned film capturing some of Noguchi’s site-specific plazas and gardens. The diverse\, interactive presentation will explore works that embrace function to understand Noguchi as a multinational\, interdisciplinary artist and designer who shaped a more open\, inclusive world. After Atlanta\, the exhibition will travel to the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem\, Massachusetts (September 19\, 2026–January 3\, 2027) and the Memorial Art Gallery at the University of Rochester in Rochester\, New York (February 13–June 6\, 2027).

SUMMARY:Gainesville Goes Pop Exhibit by Chris Hobé
DESCRIPTION:Gainesville Goes Pop by Chris Hobé\nThe inspiration for this body of work comes from everyday life and the layers of life that make up a whole. Each one of my pieces incorporates different layers and iconic nostalgic imagery from comic books\, music\, logos and patterns. There are always subtle subliminal messages in each piece that are drawn from pop culture and childhood. I tend to use loud and vibrant colors because nothing says in your face happiness like some bright color. Lastly\, the techniques that I use come from years of creating stencils\, painting and illustration; each piece is a mash-up of pop culture and iconic imagery created to give you a one-of-a-kind visual experience. \nAbout Chris Hobé\nCalifornia born pop artist\, Chris Hobé also known as ArtRevolts creates a box for the world to think outside of. Through Hobés use of vibrant color combinations\, eclectic and popular culture themes has made his one of a kind art pieces highly sought after. Hobés clientele includes domestic and international celebrities and avid art collectors. His work has been shown at several well known venues and establishments including art Basel Scope Art Show as a Bombay Sapphire regional finalist. Some of his collaborations include\, the W Hotels\, Jack Daniels\, Svedka Vodka\, Bombay Sapphire\, Halo Lounge\, Atlantic Station\, CBS radio\, Puma\, Lab Art\, 20th Century Fox\, Lee Daniels\, Mellow Mushroom and Raddison Red Hotel. ArtRevolts also recently exhibited a solo show at Scope Art Show Immersive Miami 2020.

To further align our production with the themes of acceptance and community that are the underpinning of this show\, a portion of the proceeds from this run will be donated to New American Pathways. As a Georgia-based nonprofit\, their mission is to help refugees and newcomers from all over the world navigate the journey from arrival to citizenship. By supporting their work in refugee resettlement\, English literacy\, and career advancement\, we hope to honor the play’s message of finding a sense of belonging and ensuring that everyone\, regardless of where they come from\, has the opportunity to thrive in our local community. \nSYNOPSIS\nIn a remote fishing lodge in rural Georgia\, a pathologically shy man named Charlie seeks a quiet escape from the world. To save him from the strain of conversation\, his friend convinces the local residents that Charlie is a “foreigner” who understands no English. The plan backfires with hilarious results as the lodge’s colorful inhabitants—from a cynical heiress to a scheming preacher—begin to treat Charlie as a silent confidant\, confessing their deepest secrets and dark scandals right to his face. What follows is a high-stakes\, mile-a-minute farce where a man who just wanted to be invisible finds himself the only person capable of saving the day.\n“A comic masterpiece… Shue’s play is a tribute to the power of the human spirit to find a common language\, even when the words are all wrong.” — The New York Times \nCONTENT WARNING\nWhile The Foreigner is a celebrated comedy\, its plot centers on a conflict with a local group motivated by xenophobia and extremism. Our production is committed to exploring these themes with modern intentionality\, specifically focusing on the absurdity of hate while prioritizing the safety of our performers and audience. To ground the conflict in a more recognizable contemporary context\, we will be utilizing a “Proud Boys” aesthetic and physicality for many of the antagonists. In terms of staging\, we plan to use very limited traditional regalia\, supplementing the wardrobe with modern-inspired “inflammatory” costuming (ie: “Proud Boys” references). This approach allows us to clearly identify the threat and the play’s anti-bigotry message without unnecessarily overwhelming the space with historical trauma-based imagery. We are dedicated to maintaining an open dialogue throughout the rehearsal process to ensure a supportive environment for all artists involved. \nWHEELCHAIR ACCESS CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE – Our wheelchair elevator is currently out of commission and being serviced. We’ll update this form as soon as it is up and running again. Please email info@renegadetheatreco.org for any questions about accessing the space.

SUMMARY:Seared
DESCRIPTION:With a savvy restaurant consultant and a waiter with dreams of his own added to the mix – everything starts to ignite in flames in this hilarious and insightful new play that explores what happens when art and money collide. \nAudiences will be up close to the action as the Woodstock Stage is transformed into the intimate kitchen of a New York City restaurant. SEARED is calling you into the kitchen to DISCOVER THE FIRE! \nHarry – a culinary genius with a flare for the dramatic – receives a positive review in a food magazine for his signature scallops and his business partner can see their restaurant finally making money. The catch – Harry refuses to ever make the scallops again. \nSEARED is a play that asks questions we are all deeply familiar with – what happens when the things that feel so intimately personal and our own become something that belongs to everyone? It’s also a play where we explore – intimately- the world of high-stakes cuisine\, and enter into the kitchen for a front-row look. We here at Woodstock Arts are so excited to create a fully functional kitchen onstage for this show and cook a meal for the audience to see\, hear\, and even smell! (We may not have enough portions for everyone to taste\, unfortunately).

SUMMARY:The Drowsy Chaperone
DESCRIPTION:Winner of five Tony Awards\, including Best Book and Best Original Score\, The Drowsy Chaperone is a loving send-up of the Golden Age musical\, featuring one show-stopping song and dance number after another.\nWith the houselights down\, a man in a chair appears on stage and puts on his favorite record: the cast recording of a fictitious 1928 musical. The recording comes to life and The Drowsy Chaperone begins as the man in the chair looks on. Mix in two lovers on the eve of their wedding\, a bumbling best man\, a desperate theatre producer\, a not-so-bright hostess\, two gangsters posing as pastry chefs\, a misguided Don Juan and an intoxicated chaperone\, and you have the ingredients for an evening of madcap delight.

SUMMARY:MINDFUL SEEING
DESCRIPTION:Spalding Nix Fine Art is pleased to present MINDFUL SEEING\, a series of 4 exhibitions by Carlyle Wolfe Lee\, Tim Hunter\, Amanda Joy Brown and Scotty Peek. Together\, these exhibitions invite viewers to slow down\, look closely and deepen their awareness of the natural world through 4 distinct Artistic perspectives. Reflecting on the year past\, Carlyle Wolfe Lee’s “Memorable Days” records observed rhythms and remarkable moments in nature through a process of drawing\, painting and layered silhouettes. Motivated by both admiration and concern for the environment\, Tim Hunter’s “Now You See It…Now You Don’t (Nature in Decline)” celebrates native Southeastern birds and wildflowers while drawing attention to the loss of their habitats through the unexpected use of asphalt and cement. Amanda Joy Brown’s “Path” presents a series of plein air-inspired paintings that explore the subtle interplay of light\, shadow and color across the landscape. In “Land\,” Scotty Peek uses the landscape as a point of departure for abstraction\, allowing each brushstroke to inform the next as paint is applied\, pushed and pulled across the canvas. \nOn View: July 24 – September 11\nOpening Receptions: Friday\, July 24\, 6-8 p.m. and Saturday\, July 25 12-4 p.m. \nSpalding Nix Fine Art\, 425 Peachtree Hills Ave NE\, Suite 30A\, Atlanta\, GA 30305\nThe gallery is open Monday – Friday\, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. or by appointment.

SUMMARY:How Queer Bookshops Changed the World: A Celebration with A.J. West and Queer Booksellers
DESCRIPTION:This event takes place on Zoom. This event is free\, but registration is required. Click here to register – https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/OKWvKln2S9qt3WwrG5gUPw#/registration. PLEASE NOTE: You must register using an email address that is connected to a Zoom account. This is a security measure to minimize bots and ill-intentioned attendees. \nCharis welcomes Irish author\, A.J. West\, and a panel of booksellers from veteran and newer queer and feminist bookstores in celebration of How Queer Bookshops Changed the World. Together we’ll explore the legacy of queer and feminist bookstores in the U.S. and globally\, and talk about what the recent resurgence of queer\, feminist\, and radical bookshops means for print culture and politics. We invite anyone who is interested in queer literature and community building to join us for the conversation\, but we especially welcome booksellers new and old who work in queer and/or feminist bookstores who would like to share stories and build connections. Panelists details forthcoming! \nAbout the book \nThe remarkable tale of how queer bookshops built communities\, nourished minds\, redefined literature – and changed the world. \nFor over a century\, LGBTQ+ bookshops have been the unsung heroes of queer liberation. Home not only to books but chaotic community noticeboards\, vicious rescue cats and countless meet cutes\, queer bookshops have always been more than just bookshops\, offering friendship\, solidarity and sanctuary. \nA. J. West explores the remarkable history of these bookstores. Tracing their evolution from under-the-counter operations to beloved out-and-proud institutions\, West reveals how the queer bookshop stood at the vanguard of LGBTQ+ rights\, offering support and vital information through the AIDS crisis and bringing the fight to book bans. \nA powerful testament not only to bookshops but to the courage of queer booksellers\, from Sylvia Beach hiding books from the Nazis in laundry baskets to Craig Rodwell facing off against the police at the Stonewall riots\, A. J. West celebrates the shops and booksellers that brought queer literature and lives into the mainstream. \nAbout the author \nA. J. West is an award-winning journalist and was the first openly gay BBC television newsreader in Northern Ireland. He is a former director of a national UK queer charity. His last novel The Betrayal of Thomas True was a No.2 Sunday Times bestseller. He has written extensively about queer issues for Gay Times\, Attitude\, the Independent\, Daily Mail\, Sun\, Telegraph. He regularly appears on network television and radio as a panelist on current affairs programs\, often discussing queer topics. \nThe event is free and open to all people\, but we encourage and appreciate a donation of $5-20 in support of the work of Charis Circle\, our programming non-profit. Donate on Crowdcast or via our website: www.chariscircle.org/donate. \nPlease contact us at info@chariscircle.org or 404-524-0304 if you would like ASL interpretation at this event.
