SUMMARY:Footwork: Celebrating Soccer\, Culture\, & Community Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:To celebrate Atlanta as a host city for the World Cup this summer\, Emory Libraries’ newest exhibition\, “Footwork: Celebrating Soccer\, Culture\, & Community\,” explores the intersection of soccer\, culture\, and identity. Drawing on Emory’s collections\, academic expertise\, and global partnerships—from sneaker culture influencers to community collaborators—it tells Atlanta’s connected stories of soccer\, civil rights\, and globalism from 1968 to today. Along the way\, it shows how our region\, our teams\, and even our sneakers help express who we are. \nThe exhibition features Rose Library materials that highlight soccer’s cultural and historical impact across Atlanta communities\, including memorabilia\, photos\, and artifacts from the Atlanta Chiefs\, the National Professional Soccer League\, and the creation of the North American Soccer League. Apparel from the adidas archives traces the shared evolution of the World Cup\, athletic performance\, and streetwear. \nCurated by Randy Gue (Rose Library) and Melissa Carnegie\, founder of Kicks & Fros\, the exhibition is presented by Emory Libraries\, the Michael C. Carlos Museum\, and the Emory Center for Digital Scholarship. Visit the Footwork initiative page at https://libraries.emory.edu/footwork to find out more about Emory’s campuswide Footwork initiative!

SUMMARY:Calida Rawles: Away with the Tides
DESCRIPTION:Spelman College Museum of Fine Art is pleased to present Calida Rawles: Away with the Tides\, an exhibition featuring recent works alongside a novel large-scale video installation reflecting natural environments and the rich cultural history of Miami\, Florida’s Overtown neighborhood. Calida Rawles: Away with the Tides will open to the public on Friday\, March 27\, 2026\, and will be on view until September 5\, 2026. \nInternationally recognized for her intricate and delicate acrylic on canvas paintings\, Spelman alumna Rawles blends hyperrealism with poetic abstraction and situates her subjects in dynamic\, undulating spaces. Her recent work utilizes water as a vital\, organic\, and multifaceted element—as well as a historically charged space that concomitantly represents racial exclusion and individual healing. Calida Rawles: Away with the Tides bridges the past and present\, delving into the experience of Black people in America. Rawles partnered with Pérez Art Museum Miami and members of the historically Black community of Overtown in Miami to discover the interwoven narratives of place\, memory\, and belonging that animate her practice.

Closed on Sunday.\nJoin the Library’s Artist In Residence for a free public Artist Panel Discussion on Saturday\, July 11\, from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm\, followed by a Reception from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and Q&A with Billy Clifton-Strawn and the moderator from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm.

SUMMARY:Gainesville Goes Pop Exhibit by Chris Hobé
DESCRIPTION:Gainesville Goes Pop by Chris Hobé\nThe inspiration for this body of work comes from everyday life and the layers of life that make up a whole. Each one of my pieces incorporates different layers and iconic nostalgic imagery from comic books\, music\, logos and patterns. There are always subtle subliminal messages in each piece that are drawn from pop culture and childhood. I tend to use loud and vibrant colors because nothing says in your face happiness like some bright color. Lastly\, the techniques that I use come from years of creating stencils\, painting and illustration; each piece is a mash-up of pop culture and iconic imagery created to give you a one-of-a-kind visual experience. \nAbout Chris Hobé\nCalifornia born pop artist\, Chris Hobé also known as ArtRevolts creates a box for the world to think outside of. Through Hobés use of vibrant color combinations\, eclectic and popular culture themes has made his one of a kind art pieces highly sought after. Hobés clientele includes domestic and international celebrities and avid art collectors. His work has been shown at several well known venues and establishments including art Basel Scope Art Show as a Bombay Sapphire regional finalist. Some of his collaborations include\, the W Hotels\, Jack Daniels\, Svedka Vodka\, Bombay Sapphire\, Halo Lounge\, Atlantic Station\, CBS radio\, Puma\, Lab Art\, 20th Century Fox\, Lee Daniels\, Mellow Mushroom and Raddison Red Hotel. ArtRevolts also recently exhibited a solo show at Scope Art Show Immersive Miami 2020.

SUMMARY:MINDFUL SEEING
DESCRIPTION:Spalding Nix Fine Art is pleased to present MINDFUL SEEING\, a series of 4 exhibitions by Carlyle Wolfe Lee\, Tim Hunter\, Amanda Joy Brown and Scotty Peek. Together\, these exhibitions invite viewers to slow down\, look closely and deepen their awareness of the natural world through 4 distinct Artistic perspectives. Reflecting on the year past\, Carlyle Wolfe Lee’s “Memorable Days” records observed rhythms and remarkable moments in nature through a process of drawing\, painting and layered silhouettes. Motivated by both admiration and concern for the environment\, Tim Hunter’s “Now You See It…Now You Don’t (Nature in Decline)” celebrates native Southeastern birds and wildflowers while drawing attention to the loss of their habitats through the unexpected use of asphalt and cement. Amanda Joy Brown’s “Path” presents a series of plein air-inspired paintings that explore the subtle interplay of light\, shadow and color across the landscape. In “Land\,” Scotty Peek uses the landscape as a point of departure for abstraction\, allowing each brushstroke to inform the next as paint is applied\, pushed and pulled across the canvas. \nOn View: July 24 – September 11\nOpening Receptions: Friday\, July 24\, 6-8 p.m. and Saturday\, July 25 12-4 p.m. \nSpalding Nix Fine Art\, 425 Peachtree Hills Ave NE\, Suite 30A\, Atlanta\, GA 30305\nThe gallery is open Monday – Friday\, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. or by appointment.

SUMMARY:Chuck Stewart: Framing the Sound
DESCRIPTION:The Sun ATL\, Atlanta’s contemporary art gallery and event venue located in the historic Sweet Auburn neighborhood\, is honored to present “Chuck Stewart: Framing the Sound\,” an exhibition of photographs by the late Chuck Stewart (1927–2017)\, widely regarded as the most prolific and consequential music photographer of the twentieth century. The exhibition opens to the public on Saturday\, August 8\, and runs through September 26\, 2026. \nStewart’s photographs appeared on more than 2\,000 album covers over a career spanning seven decades\, and his portraits of the era’s greatest musicians remain among the most recognized images in American cultural history. Twenty-five of his prints are held in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of American History. His work has been exhibited at Jazz at Lincoln Center and recognized by institutions across the United States and Europe. \n“Framing the Sound” opens at a singular moment: 2026 marks the centenary of both John Coltrane and Miles Davis — both born in 1926 — and Stewart’s portraits of each are among the highlights of the exhibition. The show also features arresting photographs of Nina Simone\, Astrud Gilberto\, and Tina Turner\, among many others\, offering a sweeping visual record of an era that permanently shaped American music and culture. \n“It’s probably easier to ask me whom I haven’t photographed than to tell you who I have. But if there’s a historic moment in American music\, social or cultural history that you’re curious about\, chances are I was there or have photographs of somebody who was.”\n— Chuck Stewart \nThat breadth is reflected in the exhibition itself. “Framing the Sound” presents a curated selection of Stewart’s portrait work alongside a wall of album covers drawn from his extraordinary catalog — spanning Impulse!\, Verve\, Mercury\, Reprise\, Chess\, and other labels that defined the golden era of recorded jazz. \n“Framing the Sound” will serve as the opening event in a year of international gallery and museum exhibitions celebrating the centenary of Chuck Stewart’s birth in 2027. The Sun ATL is honored to help kick off that celebration in Atlanta. \n“Framing the Sound” is conceived and curated by Kim Stewart\, Director of the Chuck Stewart Archive\, in collaboration with The Sun ATL Director Shawn Vinson\, and is presented with the full support of the Chuck Stewart Estate. \nThe Sun ATL gratefully acknowledges WCLK 91.9 FM (Jazz WCLK\, Clark Atlanta University) as media sponsor and Fireball Entertainment Group LLC as presenting sponsor. \nEXHIBITION DETAILS\nPublic opening: Saturday\, August 8\, 2026\nClosing date: September 26\, 2026\nLocation: The Sun ATL\, 399 Edgewood Avenue SE\, Atlanta\, GA 30312\nGallery hours: Friday–Saturday 11am–5pm; Sunday–Thursday by appointment

SUMMARY:Sunday\, August 16th: Seven-String Jazz Guitarist Taylor Roberts
DESCRIPTION:Taylor Roberts is one of those rare guitarists whose artistry transcends genre while remaining deeply rooted in the language of jazz. A master of the seven-string guitar\, Roberts blends breathtaking technique with warmth\, lyricism\, and an unmistakable sense of melody\, creating performances that are as emotionally engaging as they are technically dazzling. Although jazz is at the heart of his playing\, his musical vocabulary stretches effortlessly across blues\, R&B\, pop\, rock\, and the Great American Songbook\, allowing him to connect with audiences of every background. His distinctive style has taken him to international stages\, multiple appearances at the Jacksonville Jazz Festival\, and nearly a decade as the featured in-house entertainer at The Ritz-Carlton\, Amelia Island. \nWhether performing intimate solo arrangements or leading an ensemble\, Roberts has earned a reputation for transforming familiar songs into fresh musical experiences while bringing sophistication\, soul\, and spontaneity to every performance. Having studied with acclaimed educators Barry Greene\, Keith Javors\, and Bunky Green\, he combines a lifetime of study with the effortless communication of a seasoned performer. The result is a concert experience that is both virtuosic and deeply personal—one that reminds audiences why live jazz remains one of the most compelling art forms in the world.

We suggest a donation of $20 for folks who are able. Donations can be processed in CASH at the door or online via GiveLively (links to Venmo\, PayPal\, Stripe and more). \nCAUSE WE’RE SUPPORTING\nAs with all of our productions\, a portion of proceeds will be donated to a cause we believe in. To further align our production with the themes of acceptance and community that are the underpinning of this show\, a portion of the proceeds from this run will be donated to New American Pathways. As a Georgia-based nonprofit\, their mission is to help refugees and newcomers from all over the world navigate the journey from arrival to citizenship. By supporting their work in refugee resettlement\, English literacy\, and career advancement\, we hope to honor the play’s message of finding a sense of belonging and ensuring that everyone\, regardless of where they come from\, has the opportunity to thrive in our local community. \nSYNOPSIS\nIn a remote fishing lodge in rural Georgia\, a pathologically shy man named Charlie seeks a quiet escape from the world. To save him from the strain of conversation\, his friend convinces the local residents that Charlie is a “foreigner” who understands no English. The plan backfires with hilarious results as the lodge’s colorful inhabitants—from a cynical heiress to a scheming preacher—begin to treat Charlie as a silent confidant\, confessing their deepest secrets and dark scandals right to his face. What follows is a high-stakes\, mile-a-minute farce where a man who just wanted to be invisible finds himself the only person capable of saving the day.\n“A comic masterpiece… Shue’s play is a tribute to the power of the human spirit to find a common language\, even when the words are all wrong.” — The New York Times \nCONTENT WARNING\nWhile The Foreigner is a celebrated comedy\, its plot centers on a conflict with a local group motivated by xenophobia and extremism. Our production is committed to exploring these themes with modern intentionality\, specifically focusing on the absurdity of hate while prioritizing the safety of our performers and audience. To ground the conflict in a more recognizable contemporary context\, we will be utilizing a “Proud Boys” aesthetic and physicality for many of the antagonists. In terms of staging\, we plan to use very limited traditional regalia\, supplementing the wardrobe with modern-inspired “inflammatory” costuming (ie: “Proud Boys” references). This approach allows us to clearly identify the threat and the play’s anti-bigotry message without unnecessarily overwhelming the space with historical trauma-based imagery. We are dedicated to maintaining an open dialogue throughout the rehearsal process to ensure a supportive environment for all artists involved. \nWHEELCHAIR ACCESS CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE – Our wheelchair elevator is currently out of commission and being serviced. We’ll update this form as soon as it is up and running again. Please email info@renegadetheatreco.org for any questions about accessing the space.
