DESCRIPTION:To celebrate Atlanta as a host city for the World Cup this summer\, Emory Libraries’ newest exhibition\, “Footwork: Celebrating Soccer\, Culture\, & Community\,” explores the intersection of soccer\, culture\, and identity. Drawing on Emory’s collections\, academic expertise\, and global partnerships—from sneaker culture influencers to community collaborators—it tells Atlanta’s connected stories of soccer\, civil rights\, and globalism from 1968 to today. Along the way\, it shows how our region\, our teams\, and even our sneakers help express who we are. \nThe exhibition features Rose Library materials that highlight soccer’s cultural and historical impact across Atlanta communities\, including memorabilia\, photos\, and artifacts from the Atlanta Chiefs\, the National Professional Soccer League\, and the creation of the North American Soccer League. Apparel from the adidas archives traces the shared evolution of the World Cup\, athletic performance\, and streetwear. \nCurated by Randy Gue (Rose Library) and Melissa Carnegie\, founder of Kicks & Fros\, the exhibition is presented by Emory Libraries\, the Michael C. DESCRIPTION:Johnson Lowe Gallery is pleased to announce two new exhibitions opening April 10th\, 2026. \nThe gallery will present American Idols\, an exhibition of sculptures by Richard Dial spanning 2006–2025\, marking the artist’s first solo exhibition with Johnson Lowe Gallery in Atlanta. Known for transforming metal furniture into anthropomorphic forms\, Dial brings together his signature chair works alongside rarely exhibited freestanding figures. The exhibition takes its title from American Idol\, one of two non-chair sculptures on view\, referencing the early-2000s television competition where performance and public judgment shape outcome. \nAcross the exhibition\, Dial’s sculptures articulate a shared language of posture\, pressure\, and presence. The chairs read as bodies\, carrying histories of labor\, family\, and the cultural landscape of the American South\, while the figurative works heighten themes of devotion\, spectacle\, and longing. Together\, these works form a cohesive meditation on visibility and belief\, where steel becomes a conduit for human experience and the conditions that shape it.

SUMMARY:Wild Aster Young Writers Summer Studio
DESCRIPTION:In this 6-week workshop\, young writers will explore the craft of the short story through imagination\, observation\, and play. Each week blends short readings\, guided discussion\, and generative writing exercises designed to help students discover their voice and develop original fiction. \nWe’ll focus on the core elements of storytelling—character\, scene\, dialogue\, setting\, and conflict—moving between looking closely at how stories work and writing new material in real time. The emphasis is on process: staying curious\, experimenting on the page\, and learning how stories begin to take shape. \nIn the final sessions\, students will have the opportunity to share a short story in progress and receive supportive\, structured feedback from the group. The goal is to build confidence as writers while learning how to revise with care\, attention\, and intention. \nBy the end of the workshop\, students will leave with a completed short story draft\, a stronger understanding of fiction fundamentals\, and a community of fellow writers.

SUMMARY:Isamu Noguchi: “I am not a designer”
DESCRIPTION:Although Isamu Noguchi declared in 1949\, “I am not a designer\,” the internationally acclaimed artist regularly engaged with the space-shaping possibilities of design\, imagining and producing work in architecture\, industrial design\, ceramics\, furniture\, lighting\, stage sets\, and landscape design. In spring 2026\, the High will debut the artist’s first design retrospective in nearly twenty-five years\, featuring nearly two hundred objects\, many never or rarely exhibited\, spanning all facets of his creative output. \nIsamu Noguchi: “I am not a designer” coincides with the fiftieth anniversary of Playscapes\, a bicentennial gift for the city of Atlanta commissioned by the High in collaboration with the City of Atlanta Parks Department and the only one of Noguchi’s playgrounds built in the United States during his lifetime. \nHighlights of the exhibition will include sculptural models of potential and unrealized projects\, such as the recently rediscovered plaster for Play Mountain (1933); tables and stools designed for manufacturers like Herman Miller and Knoll; and a house model Noguchi designed in collaboration with architect Kazumi Adachi. The exhibition will also feature several large-scale installations\, notably the stage set for choreographer Martha Graham’s Seraphic Dialogue (1955)\, one of Noguchi’s innovative pieces of play equipment\, and a commissioned film capturing some of Noguchi’s site-specific plazas and gardens. The diverse\, interactive presentation will explore works that embrace function to understand Noguchi as a multinational\, interdisciplinary artist and designer who shaped a more open\, inclusive world. After Atlanta\, the exhibition will travel to the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem\, Massachusetts (September 19\, 2026–January 3\, 2027) and the Memorial Art Gallery at the University of Rochester in Rochester\, New York (February 13–June 6\, 2027).

Unable to control or make sense of her chronic illness diagnoses\, she began describing the ebb and flow of her symptoms as “body weather.” At first an imaginative approach to coping with flare-ups\, the phrase has become a waypoint in Lorraine’s explorations of the intimate relationship between our fragile bodies and the world around us. \nVisceral and poetic\, these braided essays traverse science\, history\, and memoir to explore the interconnected relationships between the human body and Earth’s meteorology—two chaotic systems that inform every cell of our beings. Boissoneault surveys her own “body weather\,” relating her dysregulated thyroid to global temperature fluctuations; her arrhythmic heart to chaotic thunderstorms; her inflamed joints to wildfires beyond control. \nBody Weather is a lyrical exploration that reimagines the cloudy stages of grief and challenges us to reexamine universal questions lodged deep within: how do we find comfort and meaning in a fevered world? \nAbout the Author \nLorraine Boissoneault is a writer and a journalist covering science\, history\, travel\, and current events. Author of The Last Voyageurs\, Boissoneault has previously been a staff writer for Smithsonian Magazine and editor for The Weather Channel. DESCRIPTION:Our annual Classical Remix Gala Concert at the beautiful Trolley Barn: a celebration of America’s legacy of incredible composers and artists 🥂 \nOptional dress code: We are inviting everyone to take this concert as an opportunity to dress in formal attire\, as the musicians will be dressed in gowns and suits. VIP Admission will get you exclusive access to front-row seats. Couples Admission is just two tickets bundled for a discount! \nChampagne reception generously made possible by Kelly’s Market. \nDoors open at 6:45 pm! \nThe Music\nAaron Copland’s Appalachian Spring\, John Adams’ Shaker Loops\, New York\, New York by Frank Sinatra\, music by Beyonce and Taylor Swift\, and much more! \nThe Musicians\nFeaturing musicians from the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra\, Kansas City Symphony\, principal members of the Naples Philharmonic\, ensemble vim and more. \nParking\nThe Trolley Barn has 10 on-site spaces on the side of the building and two handicap spaces at the main entrance. Additional 52 off-street spaces are available at two lots\, one directly across the street from the Barn and one a half a block from the Barn. Parking is also available on both sides of Edgewood Avenue. \nThere is no charge for parking.
