DESCRIPTION:The World(s) She Made: Composing the Radical Lives of Kathleen Neal Cleaver is the first public photography exhibit to explore the exceptional life of Kathleen Neal Cleaver. It draws heavily from the personal collection that Ms. Cleaver curated for decades and includes a few images from other collections such as that of Dr. Doris Derby. This photography show chronicles Cleaver’s personal journey from the child of a U.S. Foreign Service officer living across the U.S. South\, Asia\, and West Africa to a leader in the Black Panther Party and the international Black Power movement; and as she went from living “inside exile” (accompanying her fugitive husband to Algeria and France while she herself still possessed relative freedom of movement) to Yale University as a student\, all while raising two children\, becoming a law professor at Yale and Emory Universities\, and building a career in human rights.

DESCRIPTION:The Sun ATL\, Atlanta’s contemporary art gallery and event venue located in the historic Sweet Auburn neighborhood\, is honored to present “Chuck Stewart: Framing the Sound\,” an exhibition of photographs by the late Chuck Stewart (1927–2017)\, widely regarded as the most prolific and consequential music photographer of the twentieth century. The exhibition opens to the public on Saturday\, August 8\, and runs through September 26\, 2026. \nStewart’s photographs appeared on more than 2\,000 album covers over a career spanning seven decades\, and his portraits of the era’s greatest musicians remain among the most recognized images in American cultural history. Twenty-five of his prints are held in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of American History. His work has been exhibited at Jazz at Lincoln Center and recognized by institutions across the United States and Europe. \n“Framing the Sound” opens at a singular moment: 2026 marks the centenary of both John Coltrane and Miles Davis — both born in 1926 — and Stewart’s portraits of each are among the highlights of the exhibition. The show also features arresting photographs of Nina Simone\, Astrud Gilberto\, and Tina Turner\, among many others\, offering a sweeping visual record of an era that permanently shaped American music and culture. \n“It’s probably easier to ask me whom I haven’t photographed than to tell you who I have. But if there’s a historic moment in American music\, social or cultural history that you’re curious about\, chances are I was there or have photographs of somebody who was.”\n— Chuck Stewart \nThat breadth is reflected in the exhibition itself. “Framing the Sound” presents a curated selection of Stewart’s portrait work alongside a wall of album covers drawn from his extraordinary catalog — spanning Impulse!\, Verve\, Mercury\, Reprise\, Chess\, and other labels that defined the golden era of recorded jazz. \n“Framing the Sound” will serve as the opening event in a year of international gallery and museum exhibitions celebrating the centenary of Chuck Stewart’s birth in 2027. Through intimate interviews and vivid on-the ground footage\, the film explores often-overlooked barriers to outdoor accessibility—alongside powerful stories of resilience\, community\, and empowerment that emerge along the way.\nThe development of the documentary began with a diverse group of participantsconnected to Bay Area disability organizations\, including Ala Costa Centers\, BORP Adaptive Sports and Recreation\, The Center for Independent Living\, The Disability Cultural Center at UC Berkeley\, Friends of L’Arche San Francisco Bay Area\, Creative Growth\, and NIAD Art Center. These partnerships have provided invaluable insight\, ensuring the film authentically reflects the lived experiences of people across a range of disabilities. By featuring participants who are Deaf\, hard of hearing\, blind\, or who have mobility or cognitive disabilities\, Access Point highlights the many ways disability intersects with the natural world. It becomes not just a story of overcoming obstacles\, but also one of the universal human desire to engage with the outdoors—underscoring the transformative power of nature for all. Partnerships and participation in Access Point\nare currently expanding\, broadening its reach beyond the Bay Area to communities across the United States.\nAs participants explore outdoor spaces—from hiking trails and national parks to beaches\, forests\, and rivers—Access Point reveals the barriers people face\, including limited accessibility\, lack of resources\, and social or cultural exclusion. Each participant brings a unique relationship to nature: some are seasoned explorers whose access has been constrained\, while others are encountering these landscapes for the first time.\nThrough their experiences\, the film captures the joy\, reflection\, and sense of empowerment that nature can inspire when inequities in access are addressed. At its core\, Access Point is a story about inclusion\, equity\, and the right to experience the outdoors. It asserts that access to nature is a fundamental right not a privilege— and examines how inaccessible outdoor spaces intersect with broader societal inequities. By connecting the disability community with the environmental movement\,the film emphasizes that inclusive outdoor spaces are essential to a just and equitable society. It encourages a rethinking of how public spaces are designed and used\, fostering collaboration between environmental and disability advocates and sparking a broader conversation about access\, equity\, and belonging.\nUltimately\, Access Point invites viewers to reflect on their own relationships to the natural world and to envision a future where outdoor spaces are welcoming to everyone. DESCRIPTION:The Creatives Project (TCP)\, in partnership with the Hapeville Depot Museum and the City of Hapeville\, proudly presents: \nGavin Bernard: The Commons\nGavin Bernard’s solo exhibition The Commons explores the possibility of truly knowing ourselves and others within notions of public and private spaces and their deconstruction.\nThe Commons transforms the interior of the historic Christ Church building in Hapeville through Bernard’s nesting structures\, plant installations\, filtered light\, collaborators’ relational movements\, and visitors’ presence. Drawing its name from the 1968 essay “The Tragedy of the Commons\,” the exhibition investigates how the social construction of shared space influences our movements and thoughts\, and asks: how do we protect our humanity within systems of privatization designed without? \nThe public is invited to visit during three evolving activations of The Commons: \nFriday\, September 25\, 6:00 – 9:00 pm\nSunday\, October 4\, 1:00 – 4:00 pm\nSaturday\, October 10\, 4:00 – 7:00 pm \nThe Venue: Christ Church\, 680 S Central Ave\, Hapeville\, Georgia\nAdmission: Free and open to the public. \nBuilt in 1895\, Christ Church is Hapeville’s oldest standing church structure. Consecrated as an Episcopal mission\, the land was donated by city founder Dr. Samuel Hape\, and the Carpenter Gothic chapel was crafted by local builder James N. Cobb. Over the decades\, the space evolved\, serving as a local kindergarten\, a private home\, and a site saved from demolition. In 1986\, the building was physically moved to its current location to protect it from railroad vibrations. Today\, this rescued community landmark provides a historic site for The Commons’ durational study of how community navigates and sustains public and private spaces over time. \nAccessibility: Christ Church is accessible via a paved sidewalk from the rear parking lot and a ramp into the building. Seating will be available indoors. Public restrooms will be available and are also accessible at ground level. Parking is free. \nGavin Bernard: The Commons features artists Hez Stalcup and Jahrea Bee and is curated by Heather Bird Harris. The exhibition is made possible through The Creatives Project (TCP)\, in partnership with the Hapeville Depot Museum\, the City of Hapeville\, and the vision and stewardship of Samantha Singleton\, Director of the Hapeville Depot Museum. The Commons is supported by funding from the Fulton County Board of Commissioners.

DESCRIPTION:The Greek noun\, anamnesis\, asserts the ever-presence of the past. It can be translated straightforwardly as ‘reminiscence\,’ but it is also a word that expresses the possibility of remembering things from a previous existence\, used by the ancient Greek philosopher\, Plato\, to describe the innate knowledge recalled by the immortal soul through each rebirth. Using anamnesis as its guiding principle\, this exhibition stages a series of conversations\, or remembrances\, between the work of Sergio Suárez (b. 1995\, Mexico City\, Mexico) and the Carlos Museum’s collections of Indigenous American art\, Greek and Roman art\, and Works on Paper. Through print\, sculpture\, and ceramic\, interspersed through the permanent collection galleries\, Suárez explores the passage and presence of time on a cosmic\, mythic\, and intimately human scale\, inviting us to consider the processes that transform objects into artifacts and the histories\, memories\, and lives they embody.

DESCRIPTION:7:30pm and 9:30pm Showtimes: To Atlanta audiophiles\, Chris’s best known for his force as an arranger and Musical Director for multiple prominent celebrity artists. Chris has work as a leader and as a follower. From working side by side on shows containing some of the best musicians in the business\, including two of the nation’s greatest Band Leaders\, Jay Leno’s Band Leader\, Ricky Minor and Justin Timberlake/Janet Jackson’s Musical Director\, Adam Blackstone. While touring with B.o.B.\, Chris was featured in Bob’s 2010 video Don’t Let Me Fall\, as the pianist in his street band. Chris also studied Jazz Composition and Improvisation at Clark Atlanta University where he also won first seat in the acclaimed IAJE HBCU all-star band in which potential members would create and send an audition tape to be considered to travel and perform with the all-star unit. Chris picked up yet another first place trophy for winning the 2005 Margaret A. Guthman keyboard competing\, taking the competition by storm as aspiring pianist all over the world would participate. While touring\, Moten developed skills that would allow him to create high energy musical transitions\, moving intros\, outros and segues the keep the crowd on the edge of their seat until the very last note. It was while touring that Chris built several bands for artists like Kelly Rowland\, Joe Jonas\, and Flo-Rida just to name a few. The bands created by Chris are relentless at how fierce and energetic the players are while performing the Artists original music both in studio and out.
