SUMMARY:Footwork: Celebrating Soccer\, Culture\, & Community Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:To celebrate Atlanta as a host city for the World Cup this summer\, Emory Libraries’ newest exhibition\, “Footwork: Celebrating Soccer\, Culture\, & Community\,” explores the intersection of soccer\, culture\, and identity. Drawing on Emory’s collections\, academic expertise\, and global partnerships—from sneaker culture influencers to community collaborators—it tells Atlanta’s connected stories of soccer\, civil rights\, and globalism from 1968 to today. Along the way\, it shows how our region\, our teams\, and even our sneakers help express who we are. \nThe exhibition features Rose Library materials that highlight soccer’s cultural and historical impact across Atlanta communities\, including memorabilia\, photos\, and artifacts from the Atlanta Chiefs\, the National Professional Soccer League\, and the creation of the North American Soccer League. Apparel from the adidas archives traces the shared evolution of the World Cup\, athletic performance\, and streetwear. \nCurated by Randy Gue (Rose Library) and Melissa Carnegie\, founder of Kicks & Fros\, the exhibition is presented by Emory Libraries\, the Michael C. Carlos Museum\, and the Emory Center for Digital Scholarship. Visit the Footwork initiative page at https://libraries.emory.edu/footwork to find out more about Emory’s campuswide Footwork initiative!

SUMMARY:You Get to Be with Flowers: Writing with Flowering Plants with Anna Lena Phillips Bell
DESCRIPTION:What can flowers teach us about being in the world\, and what can they offer our writing? In this generative workshop\, we will consider how the presence of the plant world shapes our sense of place\, in memory and the present. We’ll write alongside flowers currently in bloom\, learning from particular plants how they may support us in expressing complex feelings and ideas. We’ll ask what inspiration flowers’ forms can bring as we map the structure of new poems and essays. We’ll read flower poems from poets and essayists including Marilyn Nelson\, Ellen Meloy\, Arthur Sze\, Robin Wall Kimmerer\, and Mary Ellen Solt. And we’ll think with flowers as they do their own generative work\, setting intentions for our creative practices in the seasons ahead.\nIf you like\, please bring a folding chair or something to sit on\, as we will spend a few minutes observing and writing with plants we encounter in the garden. \nHosted in partnership by Atlanta Botanical Garden and Lostintheletters. This workshop is supported in part by a grant from South Arts\, a partner agency of The National Endowment for the Arts. \nAnna Lena Phillips Bell is the author of Might Could\, winner of the Anthony Hecht Poetry Prize\, released in March 2026. She is also the author of Ornament\, winner of the Vassar Miller Poetry Prize\, and the chapbook Smaller Songs\, from St Brigid Press. Her work appears in Orion\, Electric Literature\, Evergreen Review\, and Lit Hub\, among others. The recipient of a North Carolina Arts Council Fellowship in literature and the Winter Anthology Award\, she has served since 2013 as the editor of Ecotone. She teaches at UNC Wilmington\, and calls ungendered Appalachian square dances in what’s now called North Carolina and beyond.

SUMMARY:Isamu Noguchi: “I am not a designer”
DESCRIPTION:Although Isamu Noguchi declared in 1949\, “I am not a designer\,” the internationally acclaimed artist regularly engaged with the space-shaping possibilities of design\, imagining and producing work in architecture\, industrial design\, ceramics\, furniture\, lighting\, stage sets\, and landscape design. In spring 2026\, the High will debut the artist’s first design retrospective in nearly twenty-five years\, featuring nearly two hundred objects\, many never or rarely exhibited\, spanning all facets of his creative output. \nIsamu Noguchi: “I am not a designer” coincides with the fiftieth anniversary of Playscapes\, a bicentennial gift for the city of Atlanta commissioned by the High in collaboration with the City of Atlanta Parks Department and the only one of Noguchi’s playgrounds built in the United States during his lifetime. \nHighlights of the exhibition will include sculptural models of potential and unrealized projects\, such as the recently rediscovered plaster for Play Mountain (1933); tables and stools designed for manufacturers like Herman Miller and Knoll; and a house model Noguchi designed in collaboration with architect Kazumi Adachi. The exhibition will also feature several large-scale installations\, notably the stage set for choreographer Martha Graham’s Seraphic Dialogue (1955)\, one of Noguchi’s innovative pieces of play equipment\, and a commissioned film capturing some of Noguchi’s site-specific plazas and gardens. The diverse\, interactive presentation will explore works that embrace function to understand Noguchi as a multinational\, interdisciplinary artist and designer who shaped a more open\, inclusive world. After Atlanta\, the exhibition will travel to the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem\, Massachusetts (September 19\, 2026–January 3\, 2027) and the Memorial Art Gallery at the University of Rochester in Rochester\, New York (February 13–June 6\, 2027).

SUMMARY:Footwork: Where We Gather
DESCRIPTION:Footwork: Where We Gather joins traditional sports photography with contemporary works by photographer Sheila Pree Bright\, whose new series celebrates Atlanta sports culture and uplifts the community that sport engenders. From United tailgates to the pitch\, Falcons training camp to the stands and abroad\, Pree Bright turns the camera to the fans—and through them\, to the teams they love—finding togetherness and solidarity in the places where sport becomes tradition and fans become family. \nThis exhibition is part of a broader university-wide initiative celebrating Atlanta’s vibrant sports culture as the city prepares to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Through exhibitions\, programs\, and community partnerships\, Emory is exploring how sport fosters identity\, belonging\, and connection—on campus\, across the city\, and around the world.

SUMMARY:DOUBLE TAKE
DESCRIPTION:Spalding Nix Fine Art is excited to announce DOUBLE TAKE\, a presentation of 4 shows by Corrina Sephora\, Betty Edge\, Guy Robinson and Erin Dixon. \nThrough metal sculpture and mixed media paintings\, Corrina Sephora’s “Reflections on the Universe” weaves together ancestral memory and cosmic reflection\, creating Art that becomes a vessel for movement between worlds. Betty Edge’s “Encore” looks back through her photographic oeuvre\, placing together unsuspected pairings of images captured in nature. Guy Robinson’s “Animism\, Alchemy & Reflection” interrogates these ideas in his surrealist and masterful oil paintings\, creating playful and at times unsettling compositions filled with patterns\, animals\, botanicals and everyday objects. Erin Dixon’s “On Both Sides of the Door” is a series of oil paintings exploring the familiar and disparate\, creating a possible metaphor for our contemporary conditions of instability\, vulnerability and adaptation. \nPlease join us for the openings on Friday\, May 29\, 6-8 p.m. and Saturday\, May 30\, 12-4 p.m. \nDOUBLE TAKE will be on view in the gallery from May 29 – July 17. \nSpalding Nix Fine Art\, 425 Peachtree Hills Ave NE\, Suite 30A\, Atlanta\, GA 30305 \nThe gallery is open Monday – Friday\, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. or by appointment.

SUMMARY:Twilight of the Gods
DESCRIPTION:Staggeringly intense.\nThe ultimate triumph.\nMonumental.\nUnmissable. \nThe epic struggle between good and evil reaches its climactic conclusion in Richard Wagner’s Twilight of the Gods (Götterdämmerung)\, as the battle for the ring of power brings about the destruction of the gods’ world. Devoted love is torn apart by manipulation\, and the final reckoning unfolds in a cataclysm of fire and water. SUMMARY:GHOSTED
DESCRIPTION:The Atlanta Fringe Festival gets GHOSTED.\nMetropolitan Studios\n1259 Metropolitan Ave SE\, Atlanta\, GA\nMay 28th\, 30th\, 31st and June 2nd and 3rd \nGHOSTED: A mostly True Story of Love\, Loss\, Shame and Redemption. \nGHOSTED\, had its World Premiere at United Solo in April 2024. The United Solo Festival in New York City\, (https://unitedsolo.org/)\, the biggest solo festival in the world\, brings together some of the most talented solo performers from around the world. Ghosted was also at the Philadelphia Fringe Festival in September 2024 \n“With every wish\, there comes a curse\,” Bruce Springsteen. GHOSTED\, written and performed by solo actor\, Celeste Walker (www.celestewalker.com) is about her reconciliation with past ghosts\, reclaiming an authentic self\, and finding empowerment through resiliency. Walker meets her soul mate while working in The Americus Hotel in Allentown\, PA. The relationship ends tragically and abruptly\, and\, with the help of a few ghosts\, Celeste is able to recover from loss and shame to create a fulfilling third act. 1 actor\, 8 characters tell the story\, 38 years in the making \nGHOSTED is based on Walker’s memoir and developed as part of her ongoing partnership with her director and developer\, Jessica Lynn Johnson\, founder and master teacher at Soaring Solo Studios (https://www.soaringsolostudios.com/bio/). \nOriginal music for the production was composed by Dan Shore\, an American composer and playwright from Allentown\, Pennsylvania\, whose works include The Beautiful Bridegroom\, An Embarrassing Position\, Travel\, Works of Mercy\, and Lady Orchid. https://www.danshoremusic.com/ \nThe ALLENTOWN CONNECTION: GHOSTED takes place at The Americus Hotel in Allentown\, PA\, and GHOSTED was performed at The Civic Theatre’s\, Theatre514\, 527 N 19th Street\, Allentown\, before moving to the Binge Fringe Festival at the Santa Monica Playhouse and The Dickens Theatre in Ocean View DE. (A hip injury sidelined Ms. Walker and her show at the Harrisburg Fringe had to be cancelled in 2025.) GHOSTED was performed at the Pittsburgh Fringe Festival in March 2026. \nThe first draft of GHOSTED was presented in an online reading as part of Soaring Solo’s Revealed reading series in August 2023. Amy Veltman\, Solo Artist: “I love how this is a story that\, in some ways is universal\, but the specificity that you bring to it and the genuine emotion in your delivery makes it feel so fresh and urgent.” Melissa Davey\, Documentary Filmmaker: “It is a moving story that so many women will relate to. Story can change the world.” \nReview from the New York Premiere:\nI loved this play and what a gorgeous performance by this warm\, wise\, sexy woman. Engaging everyone\, connecting\, mesmerizing and holding the audience in the palm of her hand while she unwound this sad and funny\, tragic and inspiring tale. I really hope you get the chance to see Celeste Walker’s “Ghosted.” By Samantha Simmonds-Ronceros -[NoHo Arts District\, CA] – A NoHo Arts theatre review \nReview from the Allentown\, Civic Theatre Production:\nHer show is a tour de force as she brings many facets of her gem of a life to bear for scrutiny by the viewer. The result is a polished stone of a story representing low points\, struggle\, acceptance\, accomplishment and acclaim. Walker’s performance is in turns hard-bitten\, gritty\, angry\, sometimes profane. By Douglas Graves Play Reviews Lehigh Valley Stage \nReview from the Pittsburgh Fringe Festival Production:\nGhosted doesn’t tell a new or original story (just ask millions of women who’ve been loved and then lost\, a tale as old as time)\, but a sincere one. This production is an example of how important the personal events of our private lives\, while not particularly shiny or spectacular\, can resonate through a lifetime and are worthy of time\, care\, and in some cases\, a stage. With all the persistent self help gurus\, inspirational Instagram posts about reclaiming one’s life and self worth\, it’s easy to become callous with overexposure. But every story about a woman finding her value and peace after a lifetime of feeling disposable and heartbroken is worth celebrating\, and I was glad to be a witness to Walker’s victory. SUMMARY:Seared
DESCRIPTION:With a savvy restaurant consultant and a waiter with dreams of his own added to the mix – everything starts to ignite in flames in this hilarious and insightful new play that explores what happens when art and money collide. \nAudiences will be up close to the action as the Woodstock Stage is transformed into the intimate kitchen of a New York City restaurant. SEARED is calling you into the kitchen to DISCOVER THE FIRE! \nHarry – a culinary genius with a flare for the dramatic – receives a positive review in a food magazine for his signature scallops and his business partner can see their restaurant finally making money. The catch – Harry refuses to ever make the scallops again. \nSEARED is a play that asks questions we are all deeply familiar with – what happens when the things that feel so intimately personal and our own become something that belongs to everyone? It’s also a play where we explore – intimately- the world of high-stakes cuisine\, and enter into the kitchen for a front-row look. We here at Woodstock Arts are so excited to create a fully functional kitchen onstage for this show and cook a meal for the audience to see\, hear\, and even smell! (We may not have enough portions for everyone to taste\, unfortunately).

SUMMARY:F*CK THIS\, I'M GOING TO CHURCH
DESCRIPTION:Virginia-Highland Church is proud to present an all new experimental theatre performance devised by local artists titled F*CK THIS\, I’M GOING TO CHURCH taking place at Virginia-Highland Church every weekend of March. \nMarch 06 – March 28\, 2026\nFridays at 8:00pm\nSaturdays at 3:00pm and 7:00pm \nF*CK THIS\, I’M GOING TO CHURCH is an immersive\, experimental theatre experience that reclaims the idea of church as loving community\, rejecting religious dogma that preaches shame\, judgment\, oppression\, and abuse. In the midst of our tumultuous political climate and with the rise of harmful Christian nationalism\, local Atlanta theatre artists have come together to devise a performance that seeks to dismantle the toxic ideas of religiosity\, reclaiming Great Love as our collective eternal purpose. This walk-through experience is rooted in exploring healthy spiritual connection and creating community around healing from church-related trauma through humor\, dance\, narrative movement\, improvisation\, and meditative sound. \nAudiences will be guided by actors through a labyrinth of rooms inside Virginia-Highland Church\, each room holding a scene and activations for audiences to engage with. This walking path will involve stairs; comfortable shoes are encouraged. \nThe performance is 18+ due to mature themes\, explicit language\, and nudity. \nPerformances will run every Friday at 8:00pm and Saturday at 3:00pm and 7:00pm of March 2026 at Virginia-Highland Church UCC\, 743 Virginia Ave NE\, Atlanta\, GA 30306. Street parking is available surrounding the church. \nTickets are available on EventBrite for $20. Only 40 tickets will be sold for each performance to ensure an intimate experience for audiences.
