Your Source For The Arts In Atlanta

Sylvie Fortin, editor in chief of Atlanta-based Art Papers magazine for eight years, is stepping down.

The Art Papers board of directors has announced that it will divide Fortin’s former position into two full-time jobs, one editorial and the other administrative.

“The board thanks Sylvie for her service in enhancing the publication’s international coverage and ‘AP Live!’ lecture series while managing the organization through the recent recession,” said board President Robert Brawner.

Though not directly stated, the board’s press release suggests that it will be looking for a successor who will not only continue the magazine’s international reach but also acknowledge and relate to the Atlanta community in a more meaningful way.

Fortin, who could not be reached for comment, is said to be pursuing other opportunities. She will assist Atlanta writer and book publisher Cinqué Hicks, who will take over as interim editor in chief, during a transition period. Hicks has served as a member of the Art Papers board since 2009 but has temporarily resigned to take the interim role.
